Complete washing of the Ascalis mattress into washing machine – inside and outside
All Ascalis mattresses are designed to be completely washed and disinfected into washing machine. After separation of the cover, the mattress base is deflated, folded and introduced into the washing machine drum. The cover can be washed at 90°C and is washable with 2.7 % bleach. The mattress base can be washd at 60°C.
Distributors of medical equipment will be able, according to their capacity, to use at least “12 kilos” washing machines in order to wash the mattresses themselves: covers + bases in washing machine and using chemical tablets as detergent to guarantee a hospital-type wash.
In order to guarantee patients and nursing teams maximum comfort and safety in hospital hygiene, Ascalis provides a machine cleaning service for the mattress and its cover, following a washing cycle protocol certified by Eurofins – Institut Pasteur de Lille. tests, carried out in accordance with French standard G 07-172, show that the covers have bactericidal and sporicidal activity against Staphyloccoccus aureus CIP 4. 83, Bacillus subtilis CIP 77.18 and Clostridium difficilae (strain collection IPL 948496), and bactericidal activity on mattresses against Staphyloccoccus aureus CIP 4.83, and Bacillus subtilis CIP 77.18.
Automated disinfection processes
The cleaning (detergency) and disinfection of anti-decubitus mattresses into washing machine ensures a quality disinfection process and thus ensures the health safety of patients, but also of the nursing staff in hospitals and homes.
The treatment of anti-decubitus mattresses into washing machine provides a detergent and disinfectant action obtained by a physico-mechanical treatment combining mechanical, thermal and chemical action.
Ascalis called on an independent service provider, Eurofins – Institut Pasteur de Lille, to test and validate the detergent and disinfection cycle for anti-decubitus mattresses.
The tests were carried out under normal operating conditions at the Ascalis laundry by bio-technicians from Eurofins IPL Nord.
The tests carried out allow us to conclude that “The cleaning and disinfection cycle tested on Ascalis mattress covers carried out in a 22kg drum washing machine has bactericidal and sporicidal activity against Staphyloccoccus aureus CIP 4.83, Bacillus subtilis CIP 77.18 and Clostridium difficilae (strain collection IPL 948496).

The electronic management of the diffusion of chemical detergent and the water level detergence and disinfection cycle for anti-decubitus mattresses ensures the chemical concentration as defined in the certified programme.
ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT OF THE MECHANICAL ACTION
These criteria are: number of machine revolutions per minute, duration, direction of rotation, pause times. The washing machine makes it possible to guarantee the mechanical action as defined in the certified programme for each treatment.
TRACEABILITY OF THE DISINFECTION TREATMENT
